A short-term educational program designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge, creative skills, and professional capacity in the arts through structured learning activities. A small cohort of participants is selected through a review process, and qualified educators or subject-matter specialists are engaged by the Fund to provide targeted instruction, guidance, and training based on participants’ identified learning objectives. The Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund maintains direction and oversight of all educational activities to ensure they align with its educational mandate.

JL Arts Capacity Program

  • Music - Abby McCartney

    Abby McCartney is an emerging songwriter and musician who began teaching herself guitar in 2021. She has since been developing her skills in songwriting and recording while creating original music.

    She has released early work including the demo Pretty When I Cry, the single Tired, and her debut EP Everything At Onceas she continues to explore her voice as a songwriter.

    Through the JL Arts Capacity Program, McCartney is participating in educational and professional development opportunities designed to support emerging artists. The program provides mentorship, learning resources, and skill-building experiences that support the development of artists working in music.

  • Film - Jeremy Murray

    Jeremy Murray (he/him) is an emerging media artist and film editor from Willow Grove, New Brunswick. He studied media arts and cultures at the University of New Brunswick and has focused his creative practice on film production and editing.

    As a wheelchair user living in a rural community, Murray has faced barriers to accessing creative opportunities and professional development in the arts. Through the JL Arts Capacity Program, he is participating in educational and skill-building activities designed to support emerging artists as they develop their creative practice and expand their knowledge of film and media arts.

  • Music - Justine Richardson

    Justine Richardson is an emerging singer-songwriter from Deer Island, New Brunswick whose acoustic music and songwriting explore personal and social themes. She has released original songs including Independence and Better Runas she continues to develop her voice and songwriting practice.

    Through the JL Arts Capacity Program, Richardson is participating in educational and professional development opportunities designed to support emerging artists. The program provides mentorship, learning resources, and skill-building opportunities that help participants strengthen their songwriting practice and expand their knowledge of professional music practice.

  • Theatre - Hannah Crothers

    Hannah Crothers is an emerging playwright and performer from Saint John, New Brunswick. Her work focuses on character-driven storytelling that explores themes of family relationships, grief, and human connection.

    She is currently developing a one-act play, Twelve Steps Forward, Twelve Steps Back, as part of her early creative practice in theatre writing and performance.

  • Film - Jon Wiseman

    Jonathan Wiseman is an emerging filmmaker based in Saint John, New Brunswick. He is developing his skills in directing, cinematography, and editing through independent creative projects and collaborative storytelling.

The program provides mentorship, learning resources, and skill-building opportunities that help participants strengthen their filmmaking practice and expand their knowledge of film and media arts.

  • Music - Evan Cooper

    Evan Cooper is an emerging singer-songwriter from Fredericton whose work focuses on acoustic, lyric-driven songwriting. His music explores themes of adolescence and self-expression as he continues to develop his songwriting practice.

    He has participated in songwriting camps and collaborative learning environments that support his creative growth through peer learning and mentorship.

  • Multidisciplinary - Stephanie David

    Stephanie David is an emerging multidisciplinary Métis artist based in Moncton, New Brunswick, originally from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Her creative practice includes writing, dance, step-dancing, and early work in film and performance as she continues to develop her skills across multiple art forms. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre and is continuing to explore different approaches to creative expression within the performing and media arts.

  • Film - Rebecca Tremblay

    Rebecca E. Tremblay is an emerging filmmaker based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. She has created several short film projects and is developing experience in areas such as directing, editing, production, and screenwriting as part of her early work in film.

    She continues to explore storytelling through film while building her skills across different aspects of the filmmaking process.
