  • How the JL Educational Bursaries Work

    Educational bursaries offered by the Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund are intended to support defined learning, training, and skill-development activities in the arts.

    To ensure funds are used for their intended educational purpose and to meet accountability standards, bursary funding is typically administered through direct payment to third-party educators or service providers, or by reimbursement of approved educational expenses upon submission of receipts.

  • JL NL Film Education Bursary

    Advances education in film and media arts by supporting learning, training, and skill development for emerging writer/directors in Newfoundland & Labrador.

    The bursary provides restricted educational funding to support participation in structured learning activities related to film and video practice. Funds must be used solely for educational purposes and are not provided as unrestricted income, prizes, or personal compensation.

    Eligible Educational Uses of Funds

    Bursary funds may be used only for costs directly related to education and learning, including:

    Mentorships that provide instructional guidance and skill development.

    Travel required to participate in training programs, workshops, or educational events with defined learning components.

    Workshops, labs, or intensive training programs.

    Purchase of educational or instructional materials.

    Educational costs related to a defined learning activity or learning objective

    Equipment required for approved educational or training purposes

    Application Requirements

    Applicants must submit:

    Artist bio.

    A written statement outlining the educational purpose of the proposed activity, anticipated learning outcomes, and a detailed budget.

    A letter from a mentor confirming their instructional involvement, if applying for mentorship-related support.

    Applications are assessed using transparent, merit-based criteria and are subject to organizational oversight to ensure alignment with the organization’s educational purposes.

  • JL Dance Education Bursary

    (Dance Artists & Choreographers)

    Advances education in dance by providing restricted educational funding to support learning, training, and skill development for emerging dance artists and choreographers in New Brunswick.

    The bursary provides restricted educational funding to support participation in structured learning activities related to dance practice. Funds must be used solely for educational purposes and are not provided as unrestricted income, prizes, or personal compensation.

    Eligible Educational Uses of Funds

    Bursary funds may be used only for costs directly related to education and learning, including:

    Mentorships that provide instructional guidance and skill development.

    Travel required to participate in training programs, workshops, or educational events with defined learning components.

    (Drawing & Painting)

    Advances education in the visual arts by providing restricted educational funding to support learning, training, and skill development in drawing and painting for emerging visual artists in New Brunswick.

    The bursary provides restricted educational funding to support participation in structured learning activities. Funds must be used solely for educational purposes and are not provided as unrestricted income, prizes, or personal compensation.

    Eligible Educational Uses of Funds

    Bursary funds may be used only for costs directly related to education and learning, including:

    Mentorships that provide instructional guidance and skill development.

    Travel required to participate in training programs, workshops, or educational events with defined learning components.

    Workshops, labs, or intensive training programs.

    Purchase of educational or instructional materials.

    Educational costs related to a defined learning activity or learning objective.

    Equipment required for approved educational or training purposes.
