Eligibility
The Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund primarily supports emerging creative practitioners of any age who are seeking structured educational opportunities in the arts.
For the purposes of Fund programs and bursaries, an emerging artist is someone in the earlier stages of developing their artistic practice and professional knowledge, and who is actively pursuing education, mentorship, or skill-building opportunities.
Emerging status may include individuals who:
• are building foundational skills in their discipline
• are developing a professional arts practice
• have limited access to formal arts education or mentorship
• are transitioning into a new creative field
• are seeking structured learning to advance their work
Applicants do not need to be full-time artists to be eligible.
While programs prioritize emerging practitioners, the Fund may support participants at different stages when doing so advances the educational purpose of a program.
All applications are assessed based on educational merit, learning goals, and alignment with program objectives.
Residency Requirements
Applicants must meet residency requirements specific to each award or bursary. Where applicable, applicants must:
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident; and
Have resided in New Brunswick or the Atlantic region for a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months prior to the application deadline.
Residency requirements are applied only to ensure alignment with the geographic scope of the Fund’s educational programming.
Previous Recipients
Previous recipients of educational bursaries or awards may apply again, provided they continue to meet the eligibility criteria and demonstrate a clear educational purpose and learning objectives for the proposed activity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund offer programs and bursaries through applications instead of one-to-one requests?
To ensure fairness, transparency, and accessibility, all Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund programs and bursaries are offered through structured application processes. This allows opportunities to be reviewed consistently based on educational goals, learning objectives, and program criteria.
The Fund is not able to provide individual mentorship, funding, or eligibility assessments outside of open calls. Applications are reviewed using documented criteria, and where applicable, peer juries or advisory assessors are involved in the process.
Do you consider accessibility needs or lived experience?
Yes. The Fund recognizes that artists and creative practitioners bring diverse lived experiences to their work. Accessibility considerations may be included as part of an application’s educational context and learning objectives, where relevant to the program.
Can I contact the Fund to discuss my eligibility?
We’re happy to answer general questions about programs by email. However, to maintain fairness, we’re not able to assess individual eligibility, offer mentorship, or make funding decisions through informal conversations or phone calls.
We encourage interested individuals to review our Programs and Eligibility pages and to apply when opportunities become available.
